| Diedre Vital is the wife of an army officer
and mother of three boys. She was born and raised in New York City where
her desire to enter the fashion world was kindled.
In 1982, she graduated from the High School of Fashion Industries in
New York City, where she majored in Fashion Design. She later attended
the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, earning an Associate's degree
in Applied Science in Buying and Merchandising and a Bachelor's degree
in Science in Marketing. She then worked at Symphony Fabrics in New York,
a producer of formal textiles, which enriched her knowledge of fabrics,
which she willingly shares with her customers.
She has instructed independent sewing lessons for groups and individuals,
both adults and children. Designed and instructed her own curriculum for
Beginner I, II and Intermediate students. Her personal style of teaching
involves the hands-on-method, where students learn first through working
on practice samples before applying what they have learned to actual garments.
Before moving to Alabama in October 2003, she was an independent contractor
teaching sewing lessons thru Army Community Services at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Prior to living in Kentucky, in addition to her work with individual customers,
she designed and constructed costumes for children’s Christmas productions
in Louisiana.
Now a custom clothier and sewing instructor for over twenty years, her
husbands career has brought her to Jacksonville, Alabama, where she is
once again sharing her talents with her community. In 2004, she opened
“A Virtuous Woman/Creations Unlimited”, a home-based business
that offers custom clothing design, sewing instruction, and alterations.
During the summer of 2004, Diedre taught Youth Beginner I & II Sewing
Camps through Jacksonville State University’s Continuing Education.
She also volunteered her time teaching children in a mini beginning sewing
class at 21st Century Community Learning Center in Alexandria, AL.
In the fall of 2004 Diedre will be teaching Adult sewing classes through
JSU, a Beginner Sewing Enrichment program for Home schooled children,
and a Fall-break Sewing Camp for children and teens sponsored by and held
at the Jacksonville Community Center. She will also work with the 21st
Century Community Learning Center teaching children how to sew Christmas
decorations.
Diedre’s goal is to share her God given talent with as many people
as possible, through the creativity of designing custom clothing for customers
or the excitement of a student creating a garment from a shapeless piece
of fabric.
